Ledger enlists rugby stars as brand ambassadors for Australian crypto push

Ledger, a player in digital asset security, has announced its first Australian brand ambassadors: Angus Crichton, Drew Mitchell, and Matt Giteau.

The three rugby stars are set to spearhead Ledger’s expansion into Australia, focusing on a national campaign aimed at increasing awareness of crypto security and self-custody.

The ambassadors will be involved in various Ledger-run activities over the next 12 months, including video and podcast appearances, social media content, and events. This initiative comes as more than 30% of Australians reportedly own cryptocurrency, with the ambassadors aiming to help Australians take control of their digital assets with confidence.

Drew Mitchell, a former Wallabies player with a successful career in both Australia and France said, “When I first entered the world of crypto, I was excited but also a little overwhelmed. There’s so much noise, so many platforms and services, yet very little clear guidance on how to stay secure.

“That’s where Ledger truly stands out—as an all-in-one, trusted platform for digital assets. Partnering with Ledger is a powerful way to help Australians cut through the confusion and take control of their digital assets with confidence,” he said.

Angus Crichton, a current NRL star for the Sydney Roosters and the Australian national team, added, “Crypto is quickly becoming ingrained into our everyday lives, from niche to mainstream. With millions of Australians now holding digital assets, the security side is more critical than ever. I’m truly excited to work with Ledger in raising awareness around the importance of secure self-custody and making crypto much easier to use.”

Matt Giteau, another former Wallabies player noted, “Throughout my career, I’ve learnt that fundamentals matter the most – you can’t skip the basics if you want long term success. Secure Self-Custody is fundamental for crypto ownership, and I want to help Australian crypto users understand that protecting their digital assets is not complicated when you have the right foundation from the start.”

Ledger, known for securing over 20% of the world’s crypto, sponsors the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and has collaborated with global names such as Snoop Dogg and Balenciaga. The company is committing significant local advertising spend and building an on-the-ground team to support its growth in Australia.

Ariel Wengroff, EVP of Communications and Marketing at Ledger, commented on the new partnership. “We’re excited to have Angus, Drew, and Matt join the Ledger family. Australia is one of the most dynamic markets for digital assets, and with these rugby legends we want to make self-custody simple and clear — because it’s the only way to truly protect what you own,” Wengroff said.

Ledger offers self-custody hardware wallets and the digital asset management app Ledger Live, with over 7.5 million devices sold in 165 countries. The company recently launched its new generation of secure touchscreens, Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax. Ledger is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2024 and is regarded as a leader in digital asset security for both consumers and enterprises.
