Tokenized Pokemon Cards Hit $85M Market Cap: NFT & Crypto Trend – News and Statistics

Interest in tokenized Pokemon cards is surging, fueled by the launch of new digital collectible projects on blockchain networks. According to a report from Decrypt, the market capitalization for the CARDS token from the Solana-based project Collector Crypt soared to a peak of $85 million this week, up from $23 million just a day prior.
Data from the IndexBox platform indicates a broader uptick in the niche market for tokenized collectibles. Collector Crypt’s model involves selling digital “packs” containing NFTs that can be redeemed for physical, graded trading cards held in custody. The project’s digital gacha machine, which functions like a video game loot box, has reportedly generated $70 million in sales.
This activity is not isolated to a single platform. On the marketplace Courtyard, which operates on the Polygon network, a separate Dune analytics dashboard shows that August was a record month, with $78 million in secondary sales volume for Pokemon NFTs. Over 3 million trading cards have been minted as NFTs through the Courtyard platform since its 2021 debut.
Despite the rapid growth, some risks are present. A warning from Rugcheck.xyz, cited by CoinGecko, notes that the creator of the CARDS token retains the ability to make unrestricted changes to its token supply and could potentially disable selling. The token’s price increased 210% in a 24-hour period to $0.19.
The sector is also seeing experimental new concepts, including a mockup for a “Pokecoin Market” shared by another platform, Phygitals, which would assign individual cryptocurrencies to specific Pokemon, mirroring models used in tokenized sports games.
