S.T. Dupont Adding Multi-Flame Défi Windproof

There are some lighters that include both a torch flame and a soft flame in a single body, perhaps none more famous than S.T. Dupont’s Le Grand Dupont. However, the newest lighter from the French accessory company is a completely different take on the multi-flame lighter concept.

Most of these lighters, including the Le Grand, require the user to first activate the soft flame before engaging the torch flame. However, the lighters require you to pick between either the soft flame or the torch flame; they are not designed to have both flames active at the same time.

Activating the S.T. Dupont Défi Windproof will engage both the soft flame and the torch. The idea is that you get the advantages of having a wider soft flame for more even lighting of the foot of your cigar while overcoming the soft flame’s most notable flaw: it can be blown out in windy conditions. That said, unlike the other multi-flame lighters, there is no option to only use one flame or the other. If you activate the lighter, both flames must be used.

Coles of London, S.T. Dupont’s American distributor, expects the new Défi Windproof to arrive in September. It will be offered in three options on launch:

  • S.T. Dupont Défi Windproof Black — $445
  • S.T. Dupont Défi Windproof Chrome — $445
  • S.T. Dupont Défi Windproof Copper — $445

It replaces the S.T. Dupont Défi Soft Flame, a soft flame-only version of the Défi that was introduced in 2022. S.T. Dupont will continue to sell the torch Défis, which are offered in both single and dual-flame options.
