‘Bitcoin family’ enhances security measures following rising crypto crimes
8th June 2025 – (Lisbon) Didi Taihuttu, the figurehead of the renowned “Bitcoin Family,” has restructured the security arrangements for his digital assets following a series of violent attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders.
Known for their full commitment to Bitcoin in 2017, the family has now segmented parts of their private keys across four different continents. During an interview with CNBC, Taihuttu discussed the adoption of a hybrid security approach, moving away from solely relying on hardware wallets. Explaining the comprehensive security overhaul, Taihuttu emphasised that even under duress, he can only provide access to the funds in his wallet or phone, limiting potential losses. This strategic shift was prompted by the escalating threats faced by crypto users, including abductions and extortion attempts.
To fortify their security system, the family has encrypted and divided their seed phrase into four fragments. Utilizing blockchain-backed services and fireproof metal plates inscribed by hand, these components are concealed in various physical locations globally, ensuring a robust defence against vulnerabilities.
Additionally, Taihuttu has introduced personal encryption layers by altering specific words within the seed phrase, rendering them unusable without the relevant context.
Amid their nomadic lifestyle promoting Bitcoin worldwide, the family has opted to refrain from sharing real-time location updates online due to security concerns arising from individuals tracking them through social media. Approximately 65% of their assets are now safeguarded in cold storage under the new security framework, with hot wallets for trading and expenses protected through multisignature protocols.
