The “2025 Daegu Marathon” will be held in downtown Daegu on the 23rd.
This year’s Daegu Marathon will attract a record 4,288 people, including 158 domestic and foreign elite athletes, as well as hobbyists and citizens. Like last year, the prize money for the elite category is 160,000 dollars, the highest in the world.
According to the Daegu Metropolitan Government on the 12th, 62 people from 14 foreign countries and 96 from Korea will compete in the elite sector. In particular, among foreign players, eight players with a full-course record of 2 hours, 03 minutes, and 05 minutes will participate. For the third year in a row, this competition has been selected as a gold label competition certified by the World Athletics Federation (WA).
The event consists of five events: elite pool, master’s pool, half, 10km, and health running.
The Daegu Marathon was held in April every year, but as the record was low due to the heat, it was prepared earlier to the end of February from this year. This is because the optimal temperature for marathon runners to record the best is 5 to 10 degrees. Daegu City inspected the final preparations for each field, including transportation, safety measures, and competition operation, and will conduct an on-site inspection of the gathering place and marathon course on the 13th.
Participants will also be issued the “2025 Daegu Marathon Record Certification NFT (Non-fungible Token).” The marathon NFT issuance function is based on the “Daegu Blockchain Mainnet (Daegu Chain),” which was established for the first time in local governments. Participants can get the “2025 Daegu Marathon Record Certification NFT” for free through the “Dadaegu” app after the game ends. The issued NFTs are safely stored in the “Dajae-gu” electronic wallet, and the completion record can be checked and stored at any time.
Daegu City is also holding a “2025 Daegu Marathon Hope Message NFT” issuance experience event. The Hope Message NFT can be issued with your own Marathon Hope Message NFT by accessing the “Dadaegu” app by the 20th after signing up for membership in Dadae-gu. Ryu Dong-hyun, head of the ABB industry division in Daegu Metropolitan City, said, “The issuance of record-certified NFTs using blockchain technology is a good example of the convergence of the sports industry and digital technology.”
Daegu City’s administrative mayor Kim Jung-ki said, “We will do our best to prepare for the tournament so that good records can be produced as we expect the best weather for players to perform by changing the timing of the tournament.”
