LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A woman lost $25,000 in a Facebook Bitcoin scam this week, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
Lincoln Police said a 74-year-old woman told officers she had been using Facebook Marketplace to buy and sell items and discovered her Facebook account was hacked. She told police she called what she assumed was the customer service number and was instructed to withdraw $25,000, convert it into Bitcoin and provide a copy of her driver’s license along with her social security number.
After making the withdrawal, she told police she converted the cash to Bitcoin as instructed.
LPD said the victim realized she was being scammed when the man on the phone asked her to make another withdrawal.
