Kolkata: Prakash Das (32), a cryptoaccountant, was arrested from Behala on Saturday. On Thursday, police had arrested the leader of the gang, Amit Gupta, who had allegedly duped an US citizen of Rs 36 lakh. “Das, who had opened the crypto wallet in Gupta’s name, was the main fund-handler. We found evidence of his dealings in foreign accounts and crypto wallets.Two mobiles, a cheque book and screenshots of messages were seized from him,” said DC (cyber) Atul Viswanathan. tnn

The police raided the Karaya area and apprehended the man, who admitted to being involved in fraud. This case was registered based on information received from the FBI. The accused were identified as the masterminds of the operation.

Hyderabad bizman loses Rs 1.5 crore to crypto fraud
A businessman in Hyderabad lost 1.49 crore after his crypto exchange account was allegedly compromised. He bought 4.98 BTC worth 1.49 crore from a Dubai-based person and the bitcoins were transferred into his wallet. However, an hour later, he discovered that his wallet balance was zero and received an email stating that someone had recovered his wallet using seed words. The victim suspects that someone with knowledge of his transactions was responsible for the illegal transfer of bitcoins.
