Roblox CEO hints at adding NFTs to gaming platform | CryptoTvplus
Roblox CEO David Baszucki sees a future where NFTs are integrated into the metaverse gaming platform. He outlined how such a move could happen.
Roblox is an online game platform and game creation system that allows users to program games and play games created by other users. The platform was founded by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in 2004 and released in 2006, and hosts user-created games of multiple genres.
CEO David Baszucki in an interview with CNBC, revealed the company’s plans in the future when asked about whether the billion-dollar platform’s synthetic Robux currency might become a currency usable outside of Roblox, and whether NFTs could exist on Roblox and then be able to move off-platform.
He stated that the platform has plans to make it a reality for NFTs to move from platform to platform. Baszucki suggested that NFTs could be bought and sold outside of Roblox, and then reintegrated into the platform.
“We would imagine someday that those would go off-platform, as an NFT, possibly get sold off-platform, and then come back on-platform.”
In Baszucki’s view, creators would play a key role in the process of adding NFTs to Roblox.
A user posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account a short video clip of Baszucki’s interview with CNBC, talking about the platform’s plans on NFTs existing and moving off the platform and she also expressed how the idea would make a difference for users.

Roblox’s popularity is on the rise, particularly among younger audiences. In Q3 2022 alone, the company witnessed 70 million users spending an average of 2.5 hours on its platform.
Earlier this year, Roblox introduced Limiteds, a virtual product that can be resold. Each time a Limited is resold, the creator earns royalties. Although Limiteds are not based on blockchain technology, they possess similar characteristics to NFTs.
There is a technical possibility of Robux being used outside of the Roblox platform if users log into their accounts on third-party sites. Some of these sites are already using Robux in ways that Roblox does not approve of, such as gambling. This raises concerns about the proper verification of Roblox users’ ages. Roblox has publicly denounced these sites and clarified that they are prohibited and have no affiliation with the company.
Although Roblox is open to the concept of interoperable NFTs, it remains uncertain whether or when the platform will adopt blockchain technology.
