Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Goes on Sale
Earlier this year, Tatuaje and Smoke Inn, a retailer in south Florida, made headlines with the announcement of the return of the Tatuaje Anarchy by way of a series of non-fungible token (NFT) auctions. Now, retailers have begun putting those cigars on sale, and with a price tag that is significantly higher than the last time the cigars were available.
Smoke Inn has set its pricing for the Tatuaje Anarchy NFT at $100 per cigar or $1,350 for a box of 15 cigars, while Tobacco Plaza in Great Neck, N.Y. is offering them at $120 per cigar and $1,500 per box.
When the Tatuaje Anarchy was last released in 2015, it was priced at $9.99 per cigar and $149.85 for a box of 15 cigars.
According to the two retailers’ websites, purchasing a box of Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition cigars will also earn the consumer what it calls “Anarchist Status,” which comes with a collector’s coin, access to a private Facebook group with other Anarchists, invitations to special events, and “very special limited offerings from Tatuaje Cigars.”
Each box is tagged with NFC technology which can be used to verify its authenticity, box number of lifetime production, and allocation period.
The cigars are returning as part of larger packages that were auctioned off via UREEQA, with each package including a 75-count humidor that contains 60 original Tatuaje Anarchy cigars and 15 rarer Anarchy Pale Horse Editions exclusively made for NFT holders. Also in each package was a 24 x 36 framed print of the NFT artwork, a one-of-one S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 lighter with the NFT artwork, a XIKAR Perfect Cut Xi1 cutter with the artwork, and a Quality Importers crystal ashtray that also features the NFT artwork.
Beyond those items, each Tatuaje Anarchy NFT owner has been given the opportunity to purchase a quarterly allotment of 15 boxes of 15 Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition cigars at the price of $14 per cigar.
A total of seven sets were produced, six of which went to auction, and the seventh going to Abe Dababneh, owner of Smoke Inn and the creator of the Anarchy brand. The six auctions had closing prices between $76,001 and $100,000. Two other retailers, Corona Cigar Co. and Blue Smoke of Dallas, are also selling the Tatuaje Anarchy NFT cigars, but have not yet indicated a retail price for them.
The Tatuaje Anarchy debuted in 2010 as the first cigar in Smoke Inn’s MicroBlend Series, a collection of exclusive cigars made for the retailer. It is a 6 1/4 x 48-52 figurado that uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper atop Nicaraguan dual binders and Nicaraguan fillers. It returned for a second release in 2015.
An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed the dimensions of the Anarchy’s vitola; it has been corrected and we regret the error.
