What is controversial in Futurama Season 11?
Claudia Katz revealed that in Futurama Season 11, there will be some satire and dark humour about the present. For example, the series will show that COVID-19 is still there and finally be conquered in the year 3023.While talking to SFX Magazine, Katz said, “We have a vaccine episode. We’ve finally conquered COVID-19 in 3023″. She added that it’s a very “fun exploration of science, vaccines” and “a commentary on that whole situation”.Other controversial issues tackled in a fun way will be in the form of a “Bitcoin episode” and “an NFT episode”, said Katz. Moreover, one of her “favourite episodes of the season” will have one of the cast members of Futurama being “cancelled for their behaviour”, she added.
As Futurama is returning after a decade, Katz remarked that she was “always hopeful that someday we would return,” and therefore it was “pure joy” to work on Season 11 for the team.
This comes as no surprise since Futurama has always been a satire of the times. Earlier, the series made a comment on genetically-modified food, consumerism, the military-industrial complex, and even the government. It also had a controversial episode in 2003 on the transgender Olympics.
