The 1,110 cyclists who took part in the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie crossed the finish line on Sunday afternoon, in Varennes. The event was most special for its leaders, who organized it for the last time in its current form.

It was memorable. We had some incredible times. We knew it was our last, so we took advantage of it as much as possible, said founder Pierre Lavoie.

This thirteenth race raised more than three million dollars for the Grand Défi Foundation. The funds will be redistributed in the community. Since the creation of the 1000 kilometer event, more than 30 million dollars have been raised.

The Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie team is now turning to the future and begins discussions for the new form that the Grand Challenge will take.

We are in the creative process, which I love to do, added Pierre Lavoie. We put aside our flagship which was the 1000 kilometers. We now have the responsibility to create a new one which is less harmful for the environment, but which is just as beneficial for health.

It is for environmental reasons that the organization must change its version for the next events. The large number of recreational vehicles that accompany cyclists during the event is one of the main causes.

The founder says he has the support of his team and the participants. At the end of the week I had ideas from the 1000 cyclists. These proposals are all equal and we now have to see what we are going to do with all that.

The details for the new formula have not yet been revealed. However, Pierre Lavoie made a point of specifying that the next editions will be able to accommodate more participants.
