Microsoft Reportedly Integrating Support For Crypto and NFT in Edge Browser

A Web3 wal­let that sup­ports cryp­tocur­ren­cies and non-fun­gi­ble tokens (NFTs) is appar­ent­ly in the works for inte­gra­tion into Microsoft’s Edge brows­er. Soft­ware doc­u­menter and some­times infor­ma­tion leak­er Alba­core post­ed what seem to be ear­ly pic­tures of the company’s new Web3 wallet’s user inter­face (UI) on Twit­ter on March 17.

Alba­core stated:

“Newest in the gaunt­let of ques­tion­able upcom­ing Microsoft (NASDAQ:) Edge fea­tures, a cryp­to wal­let not real­ly sure how to feel about this kind of thing being baked into the default browser.”

Non-cus­to­di­al Wallet

On what seems to be an intro­duc­tion page for the Edge wal­let, Microsoft writes, that it wants users to try its first Web3 wal­let and share frank feed­back along the road. If true, the wal­let will be inte­grat­ed into Edge rather than an add-on, and it will be non-cus­to­di­al, mean­ing that Microsoft will not have access to users’ pass­words or recov­ery keys.

Screen­shots demon­strate the abil­i­ty to buy, sell, and trade cryp­tocur­ren­cies, with Coin­base (NASDAQ:), a cryp­tocur­ren­cy exchange, and Moon­Pay, a Web3 infra­struc­ture provider, shown as inte­grat­ed plat­forms that enable you to buy and deposit cryp­to to one’s wallet.

The Inter­face is straight­for­ward when it comes to NFTs, with search func­tion­al­i­ty. Microsoft’s pos­si­ble action is the company’s lat­est in a series of recent attempts to con­sid­er­ably increase the offers and capa­bil­i­ties of Edge, which has typ­i­cal­ly trailed behind pop­u­lar rivals like Google’s Chrome and Apple’s Safari.

On Feb­ru­ary 7th, Microsoft announced that its Bing and Edge browsers will be updat­ed to include arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence (AI) pow­ered search engines and chat through OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
