Altcoin is a term used to describe any cryptocurrency that is not Bitcoin. Altcoins are alternative digitalcurrencies that were created after the success of Bitcoin. They often have similar features to Bitcoin, such as a decentralized blockchain and a peer-to-peer network, but they may also have unique features like faster transaction times, different consensus mechanisms, a greater focus on privacy. Some well-known altcoins include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash.
