Emin Gun Sirer of Avalanche (AVAX) that Adding Identity is Surveillance not Security

Emin Gun Sirer of Avalanche (AVAX) frequently expresses his views about stuff in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry.  Below are some recent opinions from him.

Identity Security and Surveillance

In Davos, listening to someone claim that adding identity to the internet will fix the security problems of web2. Identity doesn’t lead to security. It leads to surveillance.

You leave boomers alone for a second, they get the bright idea that identifying everyone on the internet will increase security. 1990s called, they want their bad, discredited ideas back.

DeFi and TradFi

I don’t think DeFi is meant to attack TradFi. DeFi is supposed to complement TradFi, at least initially.

Traditional Banks and Predatory Fees

Let’s talk about traditional banks, and the predatory fees that come with not being in control of your own assets.

Banks celebrate expanding overdraft protection to $50 before the consumer gets hit with massive fees. Bank fees accounted for $8B in revenue in 2021. One bank executive even went on to name his boat “Overdraft”

Consumers are having to decide what bills to pay, hope that they clear and the bank doesn’t “bounce the check” before their deposits hit. Big banks should not profit off the shortcomings of consumers.

With a self-custody wallet like CoreApp or Blockchain, you can be your own bank.

Sending Bitcoin (BTC) in a Minute

You can send BTC to people on Avalanche within 1 second. There are no capacity limits — if you have it, your recipient can receive it immediately. No failures. And you can use your BTC as collateral and borrow against it without selling.

Things About Blockchain Technology

Real world utility comes from using blockchain technology to solve everyday challenges. The world needs more people doing good things, especially in crypto.

Togg22

At Togg22 it was incredible to see the innovation happening at the intersection of blockchain and transportation.

Origination of Product

We’re in a worldwide shortage of goods, parts, foods, etc. Due diligence has to be at its highest. Bad actors seek profits when there’s increased pressure on the supply chain. The easiest and quickest way to verify origination of a product is blockchain tech.

Avalanche NFTs

Avalanche NFTs are moving beyond crypto market places.  For merchants, the key is that these NFTs are easy to add to their stores. Without any prior blockchain knowledge, or the need to write any code.
