Bhutan’s sustainability strategy finds reflection in the new NFT stamps issue

BHUTAN’S SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY FINDS REFLECTION IN THE NEW NFT STAMPS ISSUE

THIMPHU, TALLIN, October 27, 2022 Following the long-time country’s philatelic tradition, this year, to commemorate the 67th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, to observe Gross National Happiness Day, Constitution Day and Children’s Day, Bhutan Post, the national postal operator of the Kingdom of Bhutan, will release on November 11th, 2022 the new NFT stamps issue on stampsdaq.com dedicated to the game which brings joy, excitement and happiness to billions around the world – football! The new stamps come also in an unusual format following the general country’s sustainability strategy and at the same time introducing a new collectability vision for its stamps.

The set of 21 NFT stamps is dedicated to the history of the football world cups and will feature the artwork variations of the images of stadiums where the final games of each of the last 21 World Cup football had been played.  Each stamp will have a static and animated version in an ultra-limited edition of 500 copies of each stamp for a static variation and 100 copies of each stamp for animated version. Each collector, who manages to complete the full set of 21 static variations of NFT stamps, will also receive as a gift a physical postage stamp sheet of 21 World Cup History stamps for each full set of static NFT stamps available in his or her digital collection as of December 31, 2022. Additionally, the 22nd stamp of this set will be available only in NFT version after the final game of the 22nd World Cup is played and will be distributed to the crypto wallets of all collectors who will manage to complete the full set of 21 static NFT stamps.

This drastic change in the approach to issuing new stamps by Bhutan Post is a part of the implementation of the Post for Planet initiative of UPU and Bhutan’s national sustainability and innovation program adopted and diligently followed by the entire country.

“The digital transformation of Bhutan’s philatelic heritage is a very conscious and long-term, future oriented strategy of Bhutan Post,” said Karma Nidup, the CEO of Bhutan Post. “The Post will still use the physical stamps in its operations, but we are changing the approach for limited edition philatelic series. With the launch of our 2nd NFT stamps issue we introduce the new sales and scarcity approach for physical stamps related to these issues. This way we openly reflect the declining trend in demand for postage stamp by collectors and also increase the collectible value of our philatelic stamp issues. Digital ownership of stamps is as real as the ownership of physical stamps! Bhutan Post wants to fully utilize all the benefits of the blockchain and NFT technology and expand the boundaries of traditional stamp collecting experience with entertaining and real life benefits for all Bhutan NFT stamps collectors.”

The 1st NFT stamps issued by Bhutan Post is currently available to buy on stampsdaq.com and collectors already can experience the benefits of playing a play-to-earn Trivia game and are building up their Country Collection Scores to get regular chances in 2023 and beyond to win real life trips to the only carbon negative country in the world – visit Bhutan to experience and Believe it.

“We are truly excited and honored to support Bhutan Post in creating its NFT stamps story and making it a successful history for the generations to enjoy and benefit from,” said Andrii Shapovalov, CEO of Stampsdaq Estonia. “The disruption brought by blockchain technology created unique opportunities to expand and transform the “quiet” hobby into an exciting, interactive and engaging global Stamp Game! Collecting and trading functionality is just not enough to secure the sustainable future for the philately and I am happy that more and more postal operators are recognizing these facts.”

The design of the new NFT stamps issue by Bhutan Post is developed in cooperation with Unidesign company from Portugal, a well-known design company in the stamp design world.
