1 in 3 Filipino gamers would quit jobs to play NFT games
One in three gamers among 1,103 respondents are willing to quit or will consider resigning from their professional positions to play non-fungible token (NFT) games full time, according to a survey conducted by NFT gaming platform Balthazar.

- Among the respondents, of which 97% were based in the Philippines, 59% of gamers said they would prefer to play NFT games as their primary full-time jobs, while holding on to side gigs.
- “We believe that play-to-earn games will be the biggest disruptor in the crypto space this year, as well as the video game industry, as more gaming companies, crypto holders and traditional investors are investing in the space,” John Stefanidis, CEO of Balthazar, said in a statement shared with Forkast.
- NFT game demand soared last year with the rise of Axie Infinity, which became a popular source of primary income for gamers in the Philippines whose earnings were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
- While NFT games are providing reliable income streams for some gamers, 69% of respondents said the NFTs required to join games were out of their price range.
- Axie Infinity is preparing a free-to-play shift in Q1 of 2022 to onboard more players, while the game’s monthly sales volume in February dropped below US$100 million for the first time since May last year, according to CryptoSlam data.
