Animoca To Cover Losses In Phantom Galaxies-related Hack
Following a US$1.1 million hack of a chat app discussing the soon-to-be-released game Phantom Galaxies, the game creator’s parent company, Animoca Brands, announced Nov. 24 that it will cover victims’ losses, with further details to be released shortly.

- On Nov. 19, unknown hackers gained access to the official Discord account of Phantom Galaxies and persuaded members to pay a fee for a stealth NFT minting. The scam earned the hackers 265 ETH, or US$1.1 million, and was defused within a few hours.
- Blockchain gaming unicorn Animoca Brands and video game producer Blowfish announced it will cover the losses of all victims of this scam. The exact nature and mechanism of the compensation will be determined after discussions with the Phantom Galaxies community, Animoca stated in a release, indicating it will involve transfers to users to cover the amounts stolen by the hackers, or the delivery of equivalent value.
